Answers
to our most frequently asked questions....
What is
Chip Timing?
All registered runners will
receive a small, black, plastic "chip" that will need to be
attached to the runner's shoe (via shoe laces or a zip tie)
and worn through the duration of the race. There is a
small computer chip located in each of these chips, which will
record the exact time (as the racer runs across a timing mat)
the runner crossed both the start and finish line, providing a
more accurate race finish time.
What do
I do with the chip after the race?
Once runners have crossed
the finish line, they will be directed into a coral where they
will be assisted in removing the chip from their shoe.
DO NOT LEAVE THE RACE GROUNDS WITH THE TIMING CHIP.
If you are outside of the chip-removal area and realize you
still have your chip, please do NOT give it to any volunteer.
Please go back to the chip-removal coral and place the chip in
one of the available buckets. If you find a chip after
the race is over, please contact us immediately and mail it to
the office. All chips MUST be received by our
office by May 25th.
What
happens if I don't return the chip?
Each chip we do not return
to the timing company costs us $35 per chip. If your
chip has not been returned to GOTR by May 25, you will need to
pay the $35.
There is
still space in my daughter’s school but the program has
already started, can she still get in?
GOTR
can accept girls into the program through the second week.
After that, she must wait and register for the next season's program.
My
daughter was confirmed for the program but I don’t know how to
make payment.
Please
call the GOTR office (703-273-3153) and ask for Tiffany
(Loudoun, Prince William and Arlington Co.) or Lori (Fairfax
Co. and Alexandria City).
What
does the registration cost cover?
Included
in the fee are: GOTR NOVA curriculum to be administered by a
certified GOTR NOVA coach, snacks for each lesson, GOTR NOVA
t-shirt and race shirt, water bottle, GOTR NOVA support for
each girl and one coach in the 5k race, end of season banquet
with certificates and awards, GOTR NOVA coach training and
stipend for CPR certification, fees for liability insurance,
fees to our national program (required by the national
office), and all administrative assistance to coaches, sites,
girls and parents.
What
items does my daughter need to bring to each session?
Each
girl should come prepared to run. She should have closed
toe/heel athletic shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather,
and a full water bottle. On cold days it is best to dress in
layers.
What
kind of snacks are being given out after practice?
GOTR has
tried to purchase healthy snacks for each session. If your
daughter has allergies of any type, please make sure the coach
is aware of that. If you daughter cannot eat certain foods,
you may want to send a snack from home with her.
What is
your inclement weather policy?
GOTR
practice is never canceled due to rain or snow UNLESS school
is canceled as well. Each site has a designated space
indoors where the girls will meet their coach and do an
abridged version of the day's lesson (usually without the
running). This information should be provided to you by
your daughter's coach.
In the
case of an early release day, morning sessions will still
meet, but afternoon practice will NOT meet. If school is
delayed due to weather, morning sessions will NOT meet, but
afternoon practice WILL meet.
When
and where is the final 5k race?
It will
be held on May 17th,
2008 at Fair Oaks Mall.
Can
I run the 5k race with my daughter?
