GOTR NOVA is thrilled to announce that The New Balance Girls on the Run 5K will be held this spring at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. The 3.1-mile course is entirely within the Mason Campus, providing ample parking and a safe running environment for our girls.
Race Day Schedule and Mason Street Closure
The 5K will begin promptly at 7:30am. All participants should arrive at Mason no later than 6:30am. For the safety of the participants no vehicles will be allowed to enter the Mason Campus after 7:15am.
Parking on the Mason Campus
The most convenient event parking can be accessed by entering the Mason campus at one of the following intersections. Click here for a detailed map of campus parking. Download a campus parking map here.
• Braddock Road/Route 620 at Roanoke River Road
• Braddock Road/Route 620 at Sideburn Road (Entrance with large electronic Mason sign)
• Ox Road/Route 123 at Mason Pond Drive
Go to Assembly Area in Parking Lot L
Once you have parked, please walk to Parking Lot L, a surface lot located in the SW corner of the Mason Campus near the Patriot Center. It is recommended that you bring with you only what you will need to either run or watch the 5K.
Parking After 7:15 AM
If you arrive after 7:15AM we suggest you park in the Field House parking lots M,O,& P. This area can be accessed at the intersection of University Drive and Chain Bridge Road/Route 123. Click here to view a map of the Field House parking lots. Please be very careful when crossing Chain Bridge Road on foot after parking. Once you have re-entered the Mason campus on foot walk south on Patriot Circle to the Assembly Area located in Parking Lot L.
Find Your Coach
When you arrive at the Assembly Area in Parking Lot L please go to the color- coded area that corresponds with the name of your school. Click here (this page not yet available) to see our school color code chart. Enter the barricaded area that matches your school color and look for your school sign. The school signs will be arranged in alphabetical order. Your Coach will be waiting and will have your Race packet containing your t-shirt, bib number and timing chip. Your Coach will provide further instructions.
Race Starts and Finishes at the Same Location
Unlike the December 5, 2009 Reindeer Romp, the 5K will start and finish at the same location -- the main Assembly Area in Parking Lot L. After the 5K, please meet your daughter and other runners in Parking Lot L at your school sign. This is the same location where you met your GOTR Coach before the 5K began.
"Wave" Start Line Procedure
The 5K Start will consist of four waves starting approximately three to five minutes apart. Runners will be called to the Start Line by school color code over the public address system. Please listen carefully and leave the corral area when your school color is called. Each runner's time will be recorded electronically by the timing chip attached to her foot. Each runner's time will begin when she crosses the Start Line, and end when she crosses the Finish Line. Please remember that if you do not cross over the Start Line and the Finish Line, you will not be timed.
